Topic: LGBTQ Studies | History in Public Education in fight against Bullying
Sponsor: All Students Nationwide
Deeply concerned in the issue of bullying is more of an epidemic than a “problem” in the United States because of intolerance towards the “slanted” beliefs on marginalized (to relegate to an unimportant or powerless position within a society or group) groups.
Realizing I am trying to address the issue of bullying through education. Today, only one of 50 states mandates LGBTQ History in the public education system.
Encouraging to bring up discourse around issues of bullying (harassment) and intolerance in school because of the lack of open-mindedness, which is appalling to see coming from an educator(s).
Affirming that although Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network | GLSEN and Human Rights Watch are currently passing and aiding candidates to support more educational bills like this.
Stressing that there is an oppressive zone within schools that is causing people on multiple levels within the system to become more oppressed to the point where they lose humanity.
Taking into Action
Proposes that there be a mandate to teach LGBTQ History in the public schooling system across the nation.
Applauds that GLSEN has created a lot of new knowledge that could be useful to education, but it has not been used in education.
Suggest that there needs to be more incorporation of research and education together, not as a added extra, but as a need improvement.
Demands teachers to incorporate new ideas | techniques into their curriculum because the knowledge being produced is always changing.
Expresses hope for the betterment of education in the public schooling system and for outside schools to create tolerance and mutual respect for everyone. I also hope to end intolerance and apathy around the issues of bullying across the nation.
